Report from the Alpha Advisors’ Pit Stop April 1-2, 2005 Tony Copple reported on three key disciplines that were taught at the Pit Stop: Making vision stick Volunteering Mind Mapping All are directly relevant to the work we do as Alpha leaders.
Alpha Initiative 2005 In this Year of Prayer for Canada, there is a different concept from the past two initiatives in 2003 and 2004. There are no centrally funded advertisements. Instead there will be a National Prayer Blitz from Aug 6 – Sept 15, with the opportunity for courses to design and run a variety of prayer events such as prayer walks, vigils, prayer teams visiting churches, etc. Note: there is nothing to stop locally funded billboards or other advertising.
Toronto Alpha Training Conference, Aug 5, 6, with Nicky Gumbel and Paul Cowley This will likely be Nicky’s last Canadian visit for many years, since this year he takes over from Sandy Millar as senior minister of Holy Trinity Brompton. The emphasis will be on inviting church leaders who have not yet tried Alpha. All of us should be networking with such people to encourage them to register.
Nicky Gumbel to visit Ottawa on Tuesday August 2 Yes, Nicky’s itinerary begins in Quebec City Aug 1, then to Ottawa Aug 2, then to Toronto for the conference. We have appointed an event coordinator with two vice-coordinators to design and implement this event. The format is:
08:30 – 10:00 Media interviews (radio, TV, selected press – not a press conference) 10:30 – 12:00 Talk by Nicky: “Can a nation be Transformed?” + Sally Start on financial support for Alpha Canada staff Venue to be determined (large) 12:30 – 2:30 Luncheon in Room 256F in the House of Commons.
