Dr. Allen Churchill October 26 - 27 2001 September 21, 2001 Dear Christian Colleague in Ministry, I wrote to you on April 22, with information about the forthcoming Alpha Training Conference to be held October 26th and 27th at Dominion-Chalmers United Church. Alpha Canada encourages the concept of "Supporting Churches." These are churches that have run or are presently running an Alpha course. I invited you to be a Supporting Church and do several things including: We are now into the last five weeks before the conference begins, and preparations are at an advanced stage. All of you receiving this will be aware of it and may be volunteering in a specific area. We thank you. You may have heard our co-chair Rev. Dr. Allen Churchill interviewed on CHRI-FM on Sept. 18. An interview with Bishop Peter Coffin, his co-chair, will be aired on October 17 on CHRI between 9:00 and 9:30 am. We know that the most powerful motivator to bring people to the conference is for pastors to talk about the conference from the pulpit. Conversely, if the pastor says nothing about the event, the congregation may well assume that it is not recommended or approved of! We need your endorsement - and to assist you have posted an "open letter to pastors" on the conference web page that will give you enough up-to-date facts and info for this purpose. The second most successful crowd-puller is a church bulletin insert. We are in the final stages of creating a suitable insert, and will either make it available for download from the web page, or e-mail it to you. We invite you to visit the web page at least every week to keep abreast of the conference preparations. My previous letter mentioned the need to raise cash between supporting churches for conference administration set-up expenses. A donation from each supporting church was requested (but was not essential to be a supporting church). You may intend to support us, but have not yet "put the cheque in the mail." Now is the time! Your contribution, however large or small, is vital to the success and solvency of this conference.
